Europe stands at a decisive moment for the future of aviation. The upcoming Aviation Strategy and Multiannual Financial Framework offer a unique opportunity to position the European Union as the global leader in zero-emission flight. As competition intensifies and the transition to decarbonised flight accelerates, Europe can build on its aerospace heritage, its world-class industrial capabilities and innovation ecosystem to lead the next era of aviation while delivering on the ambitions of the Green Deal and the Clean Industrial Deal.

VÆRIDION embodies this new wave of European innovation. Founded in Munich in 2021, the company is developing the Microliner, the world’s first 100% electric nine-seat commercial aircraft. Designed to enter service by 2030, the Microliner is capable of serving around 80% of today’s European regional turboprop routes and reconnecting underserved regions while significantly reducing operational costs and emissions. Together with EU-based innovative actors, VÆRIDION represents a strategic opportunity for Europe to secure leadership in zero-emission aviation.

The next step is to ensure that European policy frameworks support the development and commercial deployment of these technologies. The EU must adopt a comprehensive strategy that recognises CS-23 aircraft as the first market-ready segment of emission-free commercial flight and supports their full development pathway: from research and scale-up to industrialisation, certification, market deployment and commercial growth.

This manifesto outlines three mutually reinforcing pillars which provide policy recommendations to support European zero-emission aviation from research to commercial deployment.
