Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) cylindrical cells for eCTOL aircraft

Vaeridion GmbH, a Munich based company that is accelerating the green transformation of aviation with a small electric aircraft that will be certified and delivered before 2030, and Customcells, a leading company in development of special high performance Lithium-Ion batteries, based in Itzehoe, and Tübingen, have signed a MoU in order to cooperate on the development of cylindrical cells that meet certification requirements for the application in eCTOL aircraft.

„The electrification of aviation is an extremely important building block on the road to sustainable mobility. We are delighted that Customcells is able to support VÆRIDION ’s exciting venture. Our high-performance battery cells will be a key enabler for this pioneering project.“
Dr. Torge Thönnessen – Chief Innovation Officer – Customcells

“High energy density batteries are a key enabler for Regional Air Mobility, using eCTOL Aircraft such as the VÆRIDION Microliner. We are excited to cooperate with Customcells, building on their know-how to develop and industrialize special cells for high performance requirements.”
Dr. Sebastian Seemann – Chief Technical Officer – VÆRIDION

The foreseeable Market Size for eCTOL aircraft will range from 5.000 to 10.000 aircraft up to 2040 and would require up to 8 GWh of cylindrical cells yearly for series production and in service replacement. All batteries will have a second life on ground after end of life for aviation is reached.
